There are many choices to be made for a custom order.  It may seem daunting at first, but these choices are what make a textile original and completely suited to you.  Following is some information to help you understand the process.

If you prefer, you can also provide me with an "abstract" concept of what you would like.  I'd be happy to put together the details for your approval.

ITEM:  The first choice is easy.  What would you like me to weave?  Anything that is two dimensional can be woven.  Some ideas are:  handtowels, napkins, placemats, tablerunner, scarf, baby blanket, throw, shawl or wrap, wall hanging, rug, yardage to be used for clothing or pillows, etc.

SIZE:  The second choice is also easy. Now that you know what will be woven, what size do you want it to be?  This is one of the advantages of a custom order.  An oversized placemat, a longer scarf, small tea towels are all possible.  The best way to determine size is to measure something you have and alter it to be exactly the size you want.  If you are unsure what size to make an item, I'd be happy to provide a "standard" size for your approval.

PATTERN:  The third choice becomes more difficult.  Now you need to decide what pattern to use.  The pattern selection is a bit tricky.  To be honest, this website is a new venture for me.  I am accustomed to showing people weave structures from books and magazines and developing a pattern to suit the project.  Due to copyright laws, I cannot provide these pictures on the website.  I am working on a solution.  As a current option, if you see a photograph of an item that appeals to you, email me a picture of it so I can identify the structure and develop a pattern for you.

FIBER:  The fourth choice is dependent upon the textile's use.  Because of a fiber's characteristics, certain fibers are more suited to certain items:  cotton or linen for items that will be washed repeatedly, tencel or silk for added sheen, wool for warmth and durability.  Life is too short to weave with synthetic fiber!  The following are fibers that I prefer:  pearl cotton, unmercerized cotton, cottolin, linen, wool, merino wool, tencel, silk.  There are also a number of luxury fibers that can be incorporated:  qivuit, cashmere, angora.

COLOR:  The fifth choice is fun.  The textile can be solid or incorporate a number of colors (depending on the pattern chosen).  Color selection can be bold or subdued.  Color theory is the same regardless of the medium.  If you have experience in quilting, scrapbooking, painting, knitting, jewelry making, etc., this choice may come easily to you.  If color selection is intimidating, I'd be happy to work with you to achieve the harmony that best suits your style.

After all the choices have been made, I will send you an Order Confirmation showing all the selections, the price, and the estimated completion date.  I will not start the project without approval.
